The September CME rough rice futures contract hit contract highs on July 22 and is up 36% since the start of 2026. US long-grain planted area fell about 29%, with Arkansas planting 41% fewer acres than in 2025, the lowest in about 50 years.
A sharp drop in US long-grain acreage tightens domestic supply and supports rough rice prices even though the crop is in good condition. Feed buyers using rice byproducts should expect firmer pricing.
