China's National Bureau of Statistics reported national retail pork prices fell 13.4% year on year from January to July. July pork prices were down 13.3% year on year but rose 4.1% month on month.
The decline reflects high breeding-sow capacity, a high prior-year base and weak end-market demand.
Persistent weak pork prices signal ample hog supply and poor producer margins, which keeps feed demand subdued. The July month-on-month rise hints at only a short-term rebound.
After 159 past bearish report events, Lean Hogs moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.3%), and +1.0% over 20.
