A joint venture between China's Eppen Group and Russia's Tatneft has started building a 100,000-tonne-per-year DL-methionine plant in Tatarstan. The project, costing about RUB 130 billion, is due to reach full capacity in Q2 2028.
Domestic Russian methionine output would replace imports over time, reducing demand for global supply and adding to the long-term capacity overhang. The impact on prices is gradual because the plant will not produce until 2028.
