Korea Ocean Business Corp. published a mid-year review of the dry bulk market, finding that freight rates from January through mid-August rose across all vessel classes versus the same period in 2025. Capesize rates rose 64.0%, Panamax 52.1%, Supramax 45.9% and Handysize 38.3%.
The report projects rates will stay above last year's levels through year-end if seasonal cargo volumes recover.
Sustained higher dry bulk freight raises the cost of shipping grains and oilseeds, supporting delivered prices for feed importers. Growing vessel supply may narrow the premium for smaller ships later in the year.
