Benchmark grain and oilseed futures rallied strongly from August into September on geopolitical conflict, adverse weather and tighter-than-expected supply forecasts. Corn and oats each gained more than 12% by mid-September, while Kansas City wheat, rough rice, soybeans and soybean meal each rose more than 8%.
Higher diesel and energy costs from the Iran conflict also squeezed US farm margins.
Tighter WASDE stocks and higher input costs support feed grain and meal prices, although the rally is broad-based commentary rather than a single new shock.
