The Dorena-Hickman Ferry on the Mississippi River has stopped carrying tractor-trailers and vehicles with trailers because low water causes an angle problem at its landings. The Cairo gauge was reported at 18 feet and expected to stay low for at least a week.
The ferry is also running a limited five-day schedule while it hires a pilot.
Low river levels are a local logistics constraint that matters little for bulk grain barge flows, so the effect on feed prices is minimal.
