On May 20, 2024, the Key Bridge Response Unified Command moved the containership Dali about 2.5 miles from the Francis Scott Key Bridge wreckage to a local marine terminal. The main channel is expected to soon be 400 feet wide and 50 feet deep, allowing pre-collapse deep-draft vessels to enter and exit the Port of Baltimore.
Remaining wreckage removal is expected to finish by the end of May, restoring the full 700-foot channel.
Reopening the Port of Baltimore restores deep-draft export capacity on the East Coast, easing congestion and freight disruption for grain and feed exports. The impact on prices is modest given the scale of the port's grain volumes.
