The St. Louis District Corps of Engineers began the 2024 dredging season with the Dredge Potter on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. In 2023 the dredge moved 6.3 million cubic yards of material at 31 locations during drought.
Active dredging maintains channel depth for barge traffic, reducing the risk of low-water freight spikes for grain shipments.
