HPAI was confirmed in a commercial broiler flock in Kentucky and a backyard flock in Virginia on February 14, 2022, and has now been detected in seven U.S. states. Earlier detections included commercial turkey farms in Indiana, and a wild waterfowl case was found in Maryland.
Detections in commercial broiler and turkey flocks cut into U.S. poultry supply and support chicken prices. Depopulation of affected premises adds to the near-term supply loss.
