The World Organisation for Animal Health reported that African swine fever and avian influenza spread more widely in the past year, affecting more animals and reaching new areas. It called for stronger biosecurity to limit contact between wildlife and livestock.
Avian influenza had affected 47 countries and close to 3,000 poultry outbreaks since October 2021.
Poultry losses from avian influenza reduce available chicken supply, which tends to support chicken prices. Wider ASF spread also raises the risk of further pork supply losses and feed demand shifts.
