Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in poultry in Cambodia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan as the northern hemisphere winter progresses. South Korea has reported 27 outbreaks this season, including a 239,000-bird layer flock and about 33,000 ducks.
Outbreaks in Asian poultry reduce local chicken supply and add to bird losses, which is mildly supportive for chicken prices. The impact is concentrated in a few countries, so the effect is modest.
