The World Organization for Animal Health released its first State of the World's Animal Health report, highlighting the global spread of HPAI into new areas including Latin America and Antarctica. The report cites 1,692 poultry outbreaks and 16.24 million poultry cases in 2024, and notes rising HPAI in mammals.
It also says almost half of WOAH-listed diseases from 2005 to 2023 have zoonotic potential.
Widespread HPAI in poultry reduces supply and supports chicken prices, but the report summarizes past trends and does not itself create a new supply shock.
