Authorities in South Korea are on heightened alert as foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever and highly pathogenic avian influenza continue to spread across the country. The Agriculture Ministry reported 65 confirmed livestock disease cases since November 2025, including 46 avian influenza, 17 ASF and two FMD.
Officials are using movement bans, emergency disinfection and culling.
Outbreaks reduce domestic livestock and poultry output and weaken meat demand, which can pressure Korean hog and chicken prices. ASF has no vaccine, so the risk of further herd losses and trade restrictions persists.
After 117 past bearish disease events, Lean Hogs moved a median -0.6% over 5 sessions (36% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.6%), and +1.2% over 20.
