More than 336,000 pigs and poultry died or were culled in Vietnam in the first half of 2026 as African swine fever and avian influenza outbreaks intensified. The Ministry reported 697 ASF outbreaks, up 59.5 percent, and 50 avian influenza outbreaks, 3.8 times the prior year's level.
Foot-and-mouth disease declined over the same period.
Heavier ASF and avian influenza losses in Vietnam reduce domestic animal supply and can lift demand for imported feed ingredients and poultry protein. The effect on global feed prices is modest, but it adds to demand pressure in Asia.
