Renewable diesel production in California is growing steadily but margins are lower than two years ago. Only about 20 percent of the feedstock used in the state in the first quarter came from soybean oil.
Thinner margins and a shift toward other feedstocks such as animal fats and waste oils limit how much soybean oil the sector will absorb, which tempers soybean oil demand.
