D4 biomass-based diesel RINs fell 44.5% in 2023 as renewable diesel output expanded and the BO-HO spread narrowed. D6 and D4 RINs were both assessed at $1.01 per RIN on September 27, near their lowest since early 2022.
Lower RIN values weaken the economics of biofuel production, which can reduce feedstock demand for soybean oil over time, though strong renewable diesel output still supports near-term crush demand.
