CBOT January soybeans rose about 1.2% to $12.59-1/2 a bushel on December 14, 2021, while January soymeal gained $14.80 to $376.90 per short ton on strong spreading against soyoil. Soyoil fell to its lowest level since June, with the oilshare dropping to about 41%.
Strong meal demand from firm US cash markets, lysine tightness and expected Chinese hog feed needs supports meal prices, while weaker soyoil reflects falling vegetable oil markets. The meal-oil spread shift favors feed buyers' cost of protein relative to oil.
