Indian rice export prices fell to their lowest since mid-November as the government released state stocks to help people hit by the COVID-19 surge, which has pushed infections past 21 million. Bangladesh approved a tender to buy 50,000 tonnes of Indian rice by rail, while Vietnamese 5% broken rice rose to $490-$495 a tonne on importer orders.
Higher Indian state stock releases add rice supply and pressure Asian export quotes, while Bangladesh's import demand and Vietnamese buying provide partial support. Net effect is softer Indian quotes with firmer Vietnamese prices.
