CME June live cattle closed at 163.95 cents/lb, up 0.25 cent, and front-month April reached a new contract high of 172.3 cents. Most-active May feeder cattle rose 2.2 cents to 207.825 cents, while June lean hogs fell 1.3 cents to 87.85 cents/lb.
Continued gains in cattle futures reflect tight fed cattle supplies and firm beef demand, which supports demand for feed and feeder inputs. Softer hog futures point to weaker demand for pork-linked feed.
