Malaysian palm oil (CPO) futures for February 2017 delivery rose 1.48 percent to 3,077 ringgit per tonne, the highest since August 2012 and up 24 percent for the year. The ringgit weakened to 4.46 per dollar, and October Malaysian stocks rose slightly to 1.57 million tonnes.
A weaker ringgit makes Malaysian palm oil cheaper in dollar terms and supports export demand, while the stock build is modest. Analysts expect the rally to continue into early 2017, supporting vegetable oil prices.
After 38 past bullish macro events, PALMOIL moved a median +0.5% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.5% to +3.0%), and -0.3% over 20.
