Natural gas prices nearly doubled from 2018 lows after a sharp 11% one-session jump on a Monday, with futures near $5/MMBtu, the highest since 2014. Leveraged natural gas ETNs such as UGAZ surged while inverse products such as DGAZ lost most of their value.
The article attributes the rally to the start of winter and diverging energy markets as crude oil fell.
Higher natural gas costs raise energy and drying expenses for grain and feed processors and can support ethanol-linked co-product costs. The move signals a sustained tightening in energy markets that feed buyers should price into winter contracts.
