The benchmark diesel price used for most fuel surcharges rose by its largest amount since June, with the EIA retail average up 5.8 cents to $3.561/gal. The increase followed several days of gains in CME ULSD futures, which rose from $2.2053 to around $2.36/gal.
Retail prices are lagging the futures move.
Rising diesel benchmarks increase fuel surcharges and hauling costs for feed ingredients. The move reflects futures momentum rather than a new supply shock.
