The first grain train since 2015 arrived at Churchill, Manitoba, on July 21, 2019, carrying wheat from west-central Saskatchewan. The rail line had washed out in 2017 and was repaired by the company that took over rail ownership.
Reopening the Churchill rail and port route adds a small northern export outlet for Prairie grain, which could modestly ease logistics constraints for Canadian wheat and barley shipments.
