USDA's Grain Transportation Report says fall grain supplies of corn, soybeans and sorghum are about 25.66 billion bushels, 10 percent above the five-year average. Storage is short by an estimated 184 million bushels, the largest national deficit since 2016, with the deficit concentrated in Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota.
Railcar loadings are above average in Kansas, Minnesota and South Dakota.
Heavy supplies against limited storage push grain to market quickly and strain handling and rail capacity, which tends to weigh on cash corn and soybean prices in the affected states.
