Global Poultry Consults

Global Poultry Consults was founded by Dr. Michael O. “Mike” Smith, a Past President of the Poultry Science Association. Mike earned a Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Oklahoma State University where his research focused on nutrition-environmental physiology interaction in heat stressed poultry. Mike spent 30 years as a professor of Animal Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he taught poultry production and conducted research in environmental management and nutrition of heat-stressed poultry.

Smith’s research focused on examination of physiological and nutritional factors involved with the growth and survival of heat stressed poultry. Specifically, his research examined the interaction between nutrients, feed or water additives and the environment in this type of bird population. Using these research findings, he developed effective management and nutrition-based tools to augment poultry production during heat stress. Mike has a particular interest in food insecurity across the world. He has provided extensive instruction in agriculture, government, cultures, and their interrelationships to food production and feeding the world.
