CBOT January soybeans closed down 2.7% at $14.29 3/4 a bushel after the EPA proposed biofuel mixing targets well below market expectations. December soyoil fell 9% in a single session.
March corn closed 1% lower and March wheat 1.6% lower on disappointing export sales.
The smaller-than-expected EPA proposal cuts the outlook for domestic soyoil demand from biofuel, the main support for soybean crush. Lower soyoil values also reduce the value of soymeal, which lowers feed-ingredient prices.
