Higher corn prices, which rose nearly a dollar a bushel this spring, are challenging cattle feeding margins. The USDA June Cattle on Feed report showed inventory 2% above a year earlier, the highest June 1 level since 1996, with placements 3% below 2018.
Larger feedlot inventories and rising feed costs weigh on feedlot margins and cattle prices, though placements slightly below last year offer some support.
