USDA's January Cattle on Feed report showed feedlot marketings up 1% and placements down 3.3%, with Texas placements down 22.7%. Lighter feeder placements fell while heavier feeder placements rose.
Lower placements signal tighter future fed cattle supply, supporting cattle prices, while slower marketings allow higher weights that could add to beef supply.
