U.S. stocks gave back their gains after a new tariff threat from President Trump. Benchmark oil prices, which are sensitive to the global economic outlook, plunged 7%, and government bond yields fell.
The tariff threat raises concern about global growth and energy demand, pushing crude lower. Risk-off moves also tend to strengthen the dollar, which pressures dollar-priced commodities.
