FAO's GIEWS brief forecasts Liberia's 2022 paddy output at about 288,000 tonnes, roughly 10% above the five-year average. Rice imports are forecast at 350,000 tonnes, about 6% below average, and wheat imports at a historic low.
Rice prices remain significantly higher than a year earlier.
Stronger domestic production and lower import needs reduce demand for imported rice in a small market. The effect on global prices is minimal, though high local prices reflect tight food conditions.
