An FxWirePro commentary says the yuan has depreciated steadily since August 2015, at an annualized pace of about 7.3 percent. It attributes the trend to the PBoC's controlled approach and to expectations of US tax cuts and infrastructure spending under Trump.
Those expectations have strengthened the dollar and complicated the PBoC's management of the currency.
Expectations that the yuan will keep weakening against the dollar pressure Chinese import buying power for dollar-priced feed ingredients. The dollar strength behind the trend is also a headwind for US commodity prices.
