Indonesia's agriculture ministry says private importers and a local government are negotiating to bring in up to 400,000 head of cattle from Mexico. The country already imports about 700,000 head, mostly from Australia.
Additional cattle imports could ease Indonesian beef prices, with limited direct effect on global feed demand but some impact on Australian live export volumes.
