USDA's January 12 reports cut the 2016 U.S. soybean crop estimate to 4.307 billion bushels, down from November but still a record. December 1 soybean stocks of 2.895 billion bushels came in 40 million bushels below trade expectations.
A smaller crop and lower-than-expected stocks tighten soybean supply and support prices, which raises the cost of soybean meal used in feed.
