Phatra Securities expects the Bank of Thailand's rate committee to hold its benchmark rate at 1.5% at its March 28 meeting and keep it there for the rest of 2017. The analyst said a rate rise would only follow if the US Fed hikes two or three times and the Thai economy firms.
A steady Thai policy rate keeps the baht supported by foreign inflows, which matters for Thai feed costs and import pricing. Any shift toward hikes would tighten Thai liquidity and could push capital out of the region.
