January Nymex natural gas closed up 0.321, or 7.35%, on Monday, December 29, reaching a three-week high. The move followed forecasts of colder-than-normal temperatures across the Northeast for January 3-7 and a larger-than-average EIA storage withdrawal of 166 bcf.
Production remained near record highs.
Expected heating demand and a larger storage draw support prices, while record output limits the upside and keeps natural gas costs for feed processors volatile.
