Industrial action by the RTBU against Pacific National has cancelled over 30 trains in Victoria since early March, affecting about 100,000 tonnes of grain. Estimated undelivered grain costs are around $10 million, mainly from port demurrage.
Further union action was confirmed for the following Sunday.
Lost rail capacity is delaying contract execution and pressuring a shipping schedule already loaded with a record Victorian harvest, which can widen port basis and raise logistics costs for grain buyers.
