Oil-type sunflower seed prices are about 10% lower than a year earlier, under pressure from large old-crop stocks that were 40% above the prior year on March 1, the highest since 2006. USDA projects 2017-18 global sunflower output at 46.1 million tonnes, up 1%.
Heavy US and global sunflower stocks keep meal and oil prices under pressure, although expected domestic crush growth of 11% supports demand for sunflower products.
