Two new US corn ethanol refineries are proposed in Iowa and South Dakota, part of an expansion that would add 500 million gallons of annual capacity by 2018. The federal corn ethanol mandate has plateaued at 15 billion gallons, and the Trump administration is expected to keep that volume for 2018.
Expanding ethanol capacity increases corn grind demand and supports corn prices, while the flat mandate limits how much further that demand can grow.
