The Australian dollar finished July up about 4 per cent against the US dollar and held near 80 US cents. Traders were focused on the RBA decision due that day, with no change in the cash rate expected.
US crude rose to two-month highs above US$50 a barrel, and Chinese iron ore rose about 8 per cent.
