University of Minnesota researchers are studying how ethanol growth and livestock expansion are changing grain freight in the state. Corn is increasingly staying in Minnesota, with trucking moving grain to local elevators, feedlots and ethanol plants.
Growing in-state corn demand from ethanol and livestock reduces the volume leaving for export, which can support local corn basis while altering freight patterns.
