China's 2017 customs data show total cereal imports of 130.62 million tonnes, up 13.9 percent from 2016. Soybean imports were 95.53 million tonnes, with rice at 4.03 million, wheat at 4.42 million, and corn at 2.83 million.
Officials say grain self-sufficiency remains above 95 percent.
Record Chinese soybean imports confirm strong structural demand for protein meal, supporting world soybean and meal prices. Corn import volume at 2.83 million tonnes is modest relative to total cereal demand.
