A University of Illinois study finds that soybean-to-corn yield ratios have been stable or declining in Midwest states since 1972. Declines are most pronounced in the Western Corn Belt, including Iowa, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.
A flat or falling soybean-to-corn yield ratio affects the relative profitability of planting decisions and the long-run balance between soybean and corn supply. The study has no immediate price impact.
