Indonesia has sent the EU a critique of the indirect land-use change (ILUC) rules in the Renewable Energy Directive II, arguing they lack credibility. The European Commission is reportedly starting to draft a Delegated Act on deforestation criteria for biofuels.
If EU biofuel rules penalize palm-based biofuels, demand for palm oil in the EU could fall. That would weigh on palm oil prices and on the palm oil meal and fat supply available to feed buyers.
