Oklahoma pasture conditions have improved sharply, with 95.94 percent of the state free of drought compared with 34.85 percent in extreme or exceptional drought a year earlier. Soil is saturated and spring grass is greening, though warm weather is still needed for full pasture and hay growth.
Wildfire risk is elevated in the coming weeks but overall lower than last year.
Good spring forage and generally good summer prospects support stocker cattle demand and feeder cattle values. The improvement also reduces the need for early herd liquidation caused by drought.
