Barge traffic in St. Louis has been at a standstill for about two weeks because of high water on the Mississippi, and vessels cannot load or unload until the Coast Guard clears them. Flooding has also closed roads into small river towns and parts of the Katy Trail.
Water levels are starting to fall.
Prolonged river closures keep grain from moving to export and processing points, which pressures local grain basis and supports freight rates until traffic resumes.
