USDA's June Quarterly Stocks and Acreage report surprised the market, with corn planted area at 91.7 million acres versus trade estimates of 86.7 million. Soybean acreage came in well below expectations, following planting delays across the Corn Belt.
Corn acreage well above expectations is bearish for corn prices, while the sharp soybean acreage shortfall is supportive for soybeans and soy meal.
