USDA's November crop report was unavailable for about 10 minutes because of a website outage in Kansas City. Corn futures moved higher during the delay and closed up after the official numbers showed a slightly smaller crop than expected.
The incident drew scrutiny over the agency's release systems.
The outage affected only the timing of a report that showed a modestly smaller corn crop, so the price move reflects the crop estimate more than the delay itself. Corn prices gained on the smaller supply.
