Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said at the American Farm Bureau annual meeting that a third tranche of MFP payments is assured and imminent, with no date set. He said a 2020 MFP program is unlikely if trade deals take effect, and that trade benefits may take until summer or fall to appear.
Expected government payments support farm incomes and may limit forced selling, but they do not add to export demand. Prices depend more on the pace of actual purchases under the trade deal.
