Cattle futures fell after the White House removed 40% U.S. tariffs on Brazilian beef, which should allow Brazilian beef to return to the U.S. market. Talk of reopening the Mexican cattle border also weighed on futures.
USDA data showed cattle on feed down 2% year over year and October placements down 10%.
Tariff removal increases import supply of beef, pressuring domestic cattle values. Lower placements tighten feeder supplies, partly offsetting the import effect.
