Authorities say the strain does not affect human health but can significantly reduce egg output, while panic buying during COVID-19 has added to retail egg shortages.
Lower layer output combined with surging retail demand tightens egg supply, supporting prices and restocking demand for birds. Feed demand from layer flocks may fall if output is cut, though the effect on feed grains is modest.
